Physical activity in the MT!

Updated: Jan 11, 2019

It is the new year and one of the most common resolutions made by many of us is to incorporate more physical activity into our lives. Sometimes we do not do it at all and feel horrible by the end of the year. In 2018, it took me until April to start, and I exercised 2 to 3 times a week until I hit practicum in October, and then I fell off. To motivate not only you, but also myself, I am going to provide you with some incentive as to why it is so important to exercise, particularly within the Master of Teaching program.

The Importance of Physical Activity in your Studies:

The Master of Teaching degree is a fabulous, yet immensely heavy program. In order to effectively deal with the oncoming tsunami of assignments, one’s mind must be sharp and focused. Physical activity provides us with a renewed energy, and the ability to focus with a fresh mindset. Now, in my first year I decided to fully dedicate myself to my studies and did not hit the gym once from September 2017 to April 2018. I found myself to be very sluggish, and it progressively became more and more difficult to focus in class as the assignments piled up. It was not until I got in the gym in April, that I was able to effectively focus and do much better in my studies, as well as my mental health in general.

Don’t be like the Jordan from first year. Be better, is what I am telling both you and myself. Tomorrow I will come through with some tips on how to get exercise within and around the OISE community.

Happy New Year, Scholar. Here is to a year of good health.

We got this!
